Why Repent?
Welcome, greetings friend!
In today's modern world, can we trust the content of a book written thousands of years ago? Is it relevant to base understanding on such an old book?
Question?
1) Why do we need to obey God?
* We have so many distractions (modern cars, smart phones, tablets, PCs, games, sports, shows, etc.) around us - it is overwhelming and burdensome to cope with so many options to attend to in the world.
It feels like they are there to keep us away from something. Have you seen yourself entangled with one of them? Maybe, all you think of – it’s a computer game, sport, etc. Well, the word of God tells us we must obey God rather than the things of the world!
Matthew 7:14 KJV
Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
2) Why is it so difficult to obey God's call?
* We are born in a sinful flesh and we cannot free ourselves through our own righteousness. That's why we must place our weaknesses on the Lord.
Phillippians 4:13 KJV
I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
We tend to drown in shallow water because we cannot contend with the grind of life. However, we are given new strength in Jesus Christ. By setting our hearts on the word and fixing our eyes upon Jesus, we would overcome the world.
Matthew 19:26 KJV
But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.
As hard as it is, we all go through tough times in life and the only way to cope with the strife of life is to set our trust and strength in Almighty GOD our LORD. That’s why, He sent His own son, Jesus Christ, to die and pay for our sins. He knows the pain we face daily and through His son is able to liberate us from such pains and aches! Let us obey Him!
Mark 14:36 KJV
And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt.
3) What are the gifts of obedience?
* As sinners, we have automatically been marked for eternal death. However, if we become obedient to God through his word. We would be redeemed from the consequence of sin. As a result, we would become new creatures in Jesus Christ and receive the gift of eternal life!
Romans 6:23 KJV
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Thanks be to God in Jesus Christ our Lord, who has given us the gift of life and the fruit of his Holy Spirit: love, peace, longsuffering, faith, goodness, gentleness, etc.
Galatians 5:22-26 KJV
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
26 Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.
That's why we must abide in and obey him no matter what we go through.
John 15:15 KJV
Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.
All who obey His calling will inherit the new world to come.
Isaiah 1:19 KJV
If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land..
4) What happens if we disobey him?
* Unfortunately, we, men, love darkness more than light and if we disobey - the wrath of God will pour on us at the end of all things! This planet will be destroyed because of sin.
John 3:19-21 KJV
And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
But praise be to God, He sent His Son to save us from the darkness that it is in the world. Let us not follow darkness and be condemned for judgment and the destruction to come. This is why we need repent and confess Jesus Christ as our one true Lord and Savior!
2 Peter 2:4 KJV
For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment..
All wickedness, darkness, and evil will be ultimately destroyed, thrown in the lake of fire!
Psalm 145:20 KJV
The Lord preserveth all them that love him: but all the wicked will he destroy.
Destruction will come in the form of consuming fire and it will turn everything into stubble!
2 Thessalonians 1:8 KJV
In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ..
5) Will everyone, obedient, and disobedient see Him?
* Yes, every person will see Him. Not one ever living being escape Jesus Christ magnificent return. Every single human being dead and alive will experience this extraordinary heavenly event!
Revelation 1:7 KJV
Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.
We must make sure we are washed of all our sins through Christ Jesus. This applies to all who are in their graves and who are still living. It does not matter the state. Everyone will see Jesus Christ as He returns to earth. Mind you, He won’t touch the ground, his angels will be sent to reap the harvest!
1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 KJV
For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
The key is to simply obey God's word and put our trust in His Son Jesus Christ and not in the world. The lust of this life will pass away, but God's love will never pass away.
1 John 2:15-17 KJV
Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
We must only rely on the power and wisdom of God, Jesus Christ our Lord!
1 Corinthians 1:23-24 KJV
But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness;
24 But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.
